PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device that prevents a switching element from being broken and then can accurately operate by making an inter-layer insulating film etc., between the switching element and a light blocking film not crack. SOLUTION: Data lines, scanning lines, switching elements, pixel electrodes, etc., are provided on a TFT array substrate, which has an image display area prescribed as a formation area of the pixel electrodes and switching elements and a peripheral area prescribing the circumference of the image display area; and a TFT (200) for determining at least one of whether an image signal is supplied to a data line and whether a scanning signal is supplied to a scanning line and a light blocking film (11aP) formed across the TFT (200) and an inter-layer insulating film (12) are formed in the peripheral area and the light blocking film overlaps with at least a portion of the TFT in plane view.
