PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithographic printing plate original which shows superb printing performance (e.g. resistance to plate wear, smudge proofness, sensitivity, cleaner-resistant printing durability, etc.) and handling ease (flaw resistance, fatigue fracture strength, etc.), and a support for a lithographic printing plate used for the lithographic printing plate original. SOLUTION: The support for the lithographic printing plate is constituted in the way that it can be obtained by treating an aluminum sheet by means of surface roughing including electrochemical surface roughing. The aluminum sheet contains 0.20 to 0.29 mass% of Fe, 0.03 to 0.15 mass% of Si, 0.020 to 0.040 mass% of Cu, 0.050 mass% or less of Ti and the remainder of Al and inevitable impurities. In addition, the support for the lithographic printing plate is constituted so that its surface area ratio and degree of steepness, obtained based on three-dimensional data, which are sought by measuring the surfaces of 5μm sq. and/or 50μm. sq. at 512×512 points using an interatomic force microscope, satisfy their respective conditions.
