PSEUDONEUTRAL NEWSPRINT PAPER AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce newsprint paper by a pseudoneutralization method enabling use of a conventional sizing agent for acid paper rather than an expensive neutral sizing agent and also an inexpensive calcium carbonate as a filler to be used. SOLUTION: The neutral newsprint paper is produced by the pseudoneutralization papermaking method using an aluminum sulfate-based pH adjustment technique so that the pH of the hot water extract liquid from a paper substrate come to 5-6. The newsprint paper has the following characteristics: calcium carbonate is incorporated as the main component of filler; the opacities of the obverse and reverse faces determined based on JIS P 8138 are 80-95% respectively; and the sizing agent for acid paper making is incorporated as the main component of the sizing agent and the sizing degrees of the obverse and reverse faces determined by Cobb sizing test based on JIS P 8140 are≤250 g/m2respectively.
