PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for conducting range finding or positioning, using packet transmission and a response procedure between a transmitter and a receiver. SOLUTION: When a radio equipment 1 transmits a packet to a radio equipment 2 of a communication mate, a radio equipment 2 side is sure to transmit a packet after a time of integer times of unit time lapses counted from a detection time of the packet. The radio equipment 1 measures a time from the transmission of the own packet up to detection of the packet from the radio equipment 2, by a counter, and subtracts a time from the packet detection to the transmission in the radio equipment 2 and a processing time in the radio equipment 1 itself from a measured time, and reduces a time provided by the subtraction to a propagation distance up to the radio equipment 2 of the communication mate to realize the range finding.
