PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element withdrawing mechanism for a lens barrel capable of accurately driving an optical element to be withdrawn to a position different from a photographic optical axis in a housed state. SOLUTION: The optical element withdrawing mechanism for the barrel has a non-rotating member; a straight advance/retreat member moving in an optical axis direction relatively to the non-rotating member and guided to advance straight in the optical axis direction; an optical element holding member supporting a withdrawn optical element constituting a part of a photographic optical system and supported by the straight advance/retreat member so as to move to an axial position where the withdrawn optical element is located on the optical axis and an off-axis position where it is out of the optical axis; withdrawing control parts formed on both the optical element holding member and the non-rotating member and moving the optical element holding member from the axial position to the off-axis position by abutting each other when relative space between the straight advance/retreat member and the non-rotating member is equal to or under the specified one; and slide engaging parts provided on the non-rotating member and the straight advance/retreat member and engaged with each other slidably in the optical axis direction when at least the optical element holding member moves from the axial position to the off-axis position or it is held at the off-axis position so as to regulate the advance/retreat direction of the straight advance/retreat member to the non-rotating member.
