The invention relates to the use of indium benzoates in processes involving the acylation of aromatic compounds, said indium benzoates having formula I, wherein: X represents a chlorine atom or a bromine atom, R represents a linear or branched alkyl radical having between 1 and 10 carbon atoms, a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom, y is equal to 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 and x is the integer 1, 2 or 3.
