PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To downsize an image sensor wherein image sensing elements can be laid out by sufficiently utilizing the space. SOLUTION: Each image sensing element is configured with: a photosensitive element that has an initial potential, senses a ray emitted from a light source, converts sensed optical energy into an electric signal and provides an output of the electric signal to produce a voltage; a reset circuit that charges up the photosensitive element to reset the element so as to have the initial potential before the photo sensing; and a read circuit to the signal output terminal of which the photosensitive element is electrically connected, which stores and reads the electric signal, and outputs the electric signal to the signal output terminal. The image sensor is characterized in to adopt a configuration such that a plurality of the concerned image sensing elements are electrically interconnected, the reset circuit of the first image sensing element of a plurality of the image sensing elements is electrically connected to the read circuit of the second image sensing element, the third and succeeding image sensing elements are similarly configured, and two each of the image sensing elements sequentially execute the reading and the resetting at the same time.
