PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disaster prevention structure and a method of constructing the same, fitted for mountain areas, to thereby curtail construction costs of disaster prevention facilities, shorten a construction period, and achieve quick recovery of the mountain areas from a disaster. SOLUTION: The disaster prevention structure having hollow steel cube blocks is made up of the hollow steel cube blocks formed of steel frame members, high-strength bolts, steel bearing plates, PC steel bars, and joint members. The steel frame members are welded to each other so as to form edge lines of each hollow steel cube block. In construction of the disaster prevention structure, first a foundation is constructed by pouring concrete screed in a construction lot, and the hollow steel cube blocks are arranged on the foundation, followed by successively stacking the hollow steel cube blocks in multiple stages on the hollow steel cube blocks in a lowermost stage, to thereby form the necessary disaster prevention structure. Then the blocks adjacent to each other in the horizontal and vertical directions in the respective stages are connected to each other by the high-strength bolts and the joint members, and the PC steel bars are penetrated at locations that requires strength in view of design, followed by arranging the baring plates to bear the structure.
