PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition capable of improving resistance to thermal fatigue of a tire, while keeping a high grip performance, by using the composition as tread of the tire, and to provide a high-performance pneumatic tire molded by using the rubber composition as the tread. SOLUTION: This rubber composition is formed by mixing (2) at least one kind of compound selected from a group comprising compounds having a specific structure as a vulcanizing accelerator and (3) an organic thiosulfate compound having a specified structure as a vulcanizing agent into (1) a rubber component containing at least one of polybutadiene rubber and styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber of which the each has a vinyl bond content of≥30%.
