PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting the presence or absence of canceration of colonocytes, with which a marker that is specific to colon cancer and is not found in other cancer diseases is used. SOLUTION: The method for detecting the presence or absence of canceration of colonocytes comprises a process for discriminating the presence or absence of expression of protein which (a) is caught by an anion exchanger and (b) has about 12,000 Da molecular weight in cells of a test sample. The method for detecting the presence or absence of canceration of colonocytes comprises a process for discriminating the presence or absence of expression of prothymosinαin the cells of the test sample.
