The bearing system for the shaft (11) of a spinning rotor (1) has support disks (4), at the open-end spinner. The support disks (4) apply an axial force. An aerostatic axial bearing (6) gives axial support to an end bearing surface at the shaft, which works with the bearing plate of the axial bearing (6). The bearing surface and/or the bearing plate are of a polyimide material. The material is mainly of polyimide, augmented by an additive to increase its mechanical stability, such as graphite at a rate of ≥ 40%, or with Teflon (RTM; polytetrafluoroethylene), or MoS2 (molybdenum sulfide), or a fiber material. The bearing plate has one or more drillings, as air flow passages, arranged in a circle. A throttle is in front of the drillings, to regulate the air flow, formed by a permeable and sintered material. The spinning rotor (1) is mounted at its shaft (11), with a bearing surface at the end away from the rotor (1), with a shoulder of polyimide. The spinning rotor (1) carries the bearing surface of polyimide, and the bearing plate can be of carbide or is coated with carbide using silicon carbide. The carbide surface has a roughness depth of ≤ 3 mu m and pref. ≤ 1 mu m.
