摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To create a variant of PaaI obtained by substitution with/deletion of/insertion of/chemical modification with one or more amino acids; to develop an ion chelating agent utilizing a chlorine-binding ability of the PaaI: and to provide a method for improving biosynthesis/degradation of a biodegradable plastic by utilizing the modification of a thioesterase activity of the PaaI. <P>SOLUTION: The development of the ion chelating agent by utilizing the chlorine-binding ability of the PaaI or the method for improving the biosynthesis/degradation of the biodegradable plastic by utilizing the modification of the thioesterase activity of the PaaI uses a crystal of a PaaI protein (a ligand non-bonding crystal), a crystal of a complex of the protein with a reducing coenzyme A (a Co-A-SH bonding type crystal), a crystal of a complex of the protein with a hexanoyl Co-A (a hexanoyl Co-A bonding type crystal), and a three-dimensional structural coordinate or the like of each atom, determined by using a crystal structure analysis of these crystals by X-ray diffraction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
