PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traveling object detecting system for accurately detecting the location of a traveling object by using a transceiver for inducing an electric field based on information to be transmitted in an electric field transmitting medium, and for detecting the electric field induced in the electric field transmitting medium to transmit/receive the information. SOLUTION: The traveling object detecting system 100 is provided with a plurality of transmitters 110i(i=a to n), a detecting device 120 and an observing device 130, and the plurality of transmitters 110i and the detecting device 120 are set with proper intervals in the traveling direction of an automobile, and the automobile passing on the road is detected, so that the length of the automobile can be measured in this computer system. When the tires of an automobile 10 are simultaneously brought into contact with the electrodes of the transmitters 110i and the detecting device 120 on the road, communication paths between the transmitters 110i and the detecting device 120 through the automobile 10 is established by using a transceiver 9.
