PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproducing apparatus capable of rapidly starting reproduction of first data even when there is a need for registering information associated with data into a database when stating the reproduction of a storage medium and performing a comfortable reproduction without allowing a use to worry about the time for waiting by drastically shortening the time for waiting before the start of the reproduction. SOLUTION: The reproducing apparatus 10 is equipped with a reproducing means 12 for reproducing the data stored in the storage medium, a first information registering means for reading the information associated with the data from the storage medium and registering the data in a containment medium DB 15a, and a reproduction starting means for starting the reproduction of the storage medium by detecting the containment or selection operation of the fresh storage medium. When the containment or selection operation of the fresh storage medium is detected by the reproduction starting means, the first information registering means reads in the information associated with the data reproduced first from the storage medium and registers the data into the medium DB 15a, thence starts the reproduction of the data to be reproduced first, reads in the information associated with the remaining data during the reproduction and registers the data into the medium DB 15a.
