PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized paper money depositing and paying machine capable of performing depositing and paying processing of paper money in a simple mechanism. SOLUTION: A paying-money rejecting chamber 33 is arranged in a paper money cassette 29, and a paper money paying section 50 is arranged outside the paper money cassette 29 and in the vicinity of the paying-money rejecting chamber 33 in the paper money depositing and paying machine 1. When 1000-yen notes are properly sent out from a 1000-yen stacker 28, the paper money depositing and paying machine 1 conveys the 1000-yen notes with a paper money conveying belt 52, pushes them out to a paid paper money reserving section 53 by a pusher 56, and conveys them to a paper money paying outlet 1b by the paper money paying section 50. When the 1000-yen notes are not properly sent out, the 1000-yen notes are conveyed to the paying-money rejecting chamber 33 by the paper money conveying belt 52, and stores them in the paying-money rejecting chamber 33.
