PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wholly aromatic liquid crystalline polyester excellent in thin-wall fluidity under melt processing and scarcely causing defects including deformation and projected pin traces in releasing from a high-temperature mold, and to provide a composition containing the same. SOLUTION: The liquid crystalline polyester is composed of structural units(I), (II), (III), (IV) and (V) represented by the corresponding formulas (I), (II), (III), (IV) and (V); wherein the structural unit(I) accounts for 65-80 mol% of a total of the structural units(I), (II) and (III), the structural unit(II) accounts for 60-75 mol% of a total of the structural units(II) and (III), the structural unit(IV) accounts for 60-70 mol% of a total of the structural units(IV) and (V), and a total of the structural units(II) and (III) a total of the structural units(IV) and (V) are substantially equimolar to each other.
