The invention relates to a method for the structuring of a catalyst on a support, characterised in comprising the following steps: deposition of a layer of catalyst on the support, annealing the structure produced thus to give a fractionation of the catalyst layer in the form of drops and etching of the catalyst layer to control the density of the catalyst drops. The invention further relates to a method for the production of nanotubes of carbon on the catalyst drops on the structure as obtained by the above structuring method. The invention also relates to a device comprising a cathode and an anode, the cathode comprising a layer of carbon nanotubes produced by the method of growing nanotubes.
