PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation input device, improving operability by allowing an operator to operate without feeling strangeness in operating direction according to the status of the operator even if an operator or the operational form is changed. SOLUTION: In this operation input device, recognition areas Ea, Eb, Ec, Ed classified by each operation signal are distributed and set in the peripheral direction depending on the operating direction of an input operation part in a joy stick 1, whereby corresponding to the operating direction of the input operation part, the area by each operation signal class is recognized to perform input operation by each operation signal class depending on the recognition areas Ea, Eb, Ec, Ed. The recognition areas Ea, Eb, Ec, Ed by each operation signal class corresponding to the operation direction of the input operation part are positioned in the peripheral direction.
