PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat treatment method for preventing a quench crack of an article to be treated, by reducing a temperature difference between the central part and the outer layer of the article. SOLUTION: The heat treatment method for desirably heat-treating the article by cooling the article after heating comprises a heating step S3 of heat-treating the article, the first cooling step S4 of cooling the article with a coolant gas, a leaving step S5 of reducing the temperature difference between the central part and the outer layer of the article by leaving the article cooled off in the first cooling process S4, without heating or cooling it, and the second cooling step S7 of further cooling the article after the leaving step S5.
