The road vehicle (1) may have an electric motor (7) driving a pinion (8) through a reduction gear. It engages with a sector gear (6) on a pivot (5) on a transverse tube (9) held on brackets (10) at the rear end of the vehicle. The ball hitch (4) is mounted on an arm on the sector gear so that it is movable laterally on a curved path. The lateral position of the ball hitch may be set using a switch (16) on a scale (14) with a pointer (15) accessible to the driver. The trailer (2) is connected to the tow hitch by a shaft (3) or A-frame in the usual way.
