<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proton conductive polymer membrane with high proton conductivity, high methanol blocking properties, and useful for a direct alcohol type fuel cell. <P>SOLUTION: The proton conductive polymer membrane with high proton conductivity, high methanol blocking properties, and useful for the direct alcohol type fuel cell is formed by arranging a layer having a lower ion-exchange capacity compared with the surface of the membrane on the inside of the membrane. More specifically, the proton conductive polymer membrane is made to an ion-exchange capacity (A) of 0.5 milliequivalent / gram or more and has on the inside an ion-exchange capacity (B) lower compared with that on the surface of the membrane. It is preferable that the ion-exchange capacity on the inside satisfies the relation 0.3×A<B<0.7×A for the ion-exchange capacity (A) and the ion-exchange capacity (B). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
