<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lysine decarboxylase gene of a methanol-assimilating bacterium, especially a Methylomonas bacterium, and to provide a method for producing L-lysine with the gene. <P>SOLUTION: This method for producing L-lysine comprises culturing a Methylomonas bacterium in which a gene having the same base sequence as that of a DNA encoding a protein represented by the below-described (A) or (B) or a gene having homology in an extent capable of causing a homologous recombination with the DNA is degraded to inhibit the expression of the gene and lower or eliminate a lysine decarboxylase activity in the cell, in a liquid culture medium containing methanol as a main carbon source to produce and accumulate the L-lysine in the culture product, and then gathering the L-lysine from the culture product. (A): a protein having an amino acid sequence represented by the sequence number 4.
