<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plate cylinder system which helps perform a plate cylinder presetting operation precisely and rapidly without depending on manual labor, and a plate cylinder presetting method. <P>SOLUTION: The plate cylinder system sets an image sensor 13 at a specified position in the axial direction near a plate cylinder 11 based on a plate cylinder width previously entered. Next, the image sensor 13 is focused based on the circumferential length of the plate cylinder 11 previously entered. After that, a preset mark 12 provided on the plate cylinder 11 is detected with the help of the image sensor 13 by rotating the plate cylinder 11 using a drive mechanism 15.
