PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain thermal transfer and mechanical strength in parts in the required status at assembly in a sheath heater, a cylindrical body, a cap or the like of an anti-freeze block heater for engine cooling water. SOLUTION: The block heater is equipped with a sheath heater 2 having a heating element 18 buried in heat resistant insulating powder 22 in a sheath 11, a cylindrical body 3 mounted on a heater mounting part of an engine block for an automobile while retaining the sheath heater rare end, and a cap 4 assembled in the opposite side end to the sheath heater of the cylindrical body and holding a heater connecting end of a cable 5 having a power receptacle 6 on one end. A gap 30 is provided between the cap side end of the cylindrical body and the body side end of the cap.
