摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a direct injection spark ignition type internal combustion engine, wherein the amount of emissions of unburnt fuel is reduced by cutting fuel spray that interferes with intake valves 5A, 5B during intake stroke injection, when fuel is injected, from a fuel injection valve 7 disposed on a side of a combustion chamber 1, toward the center portion of the combustion chamber 1 through space between the two intake valves 5A, 5B. SOLUTION: As one-valve stoppage is executed with one intake valve 5A stopped and closed regardless of the cold/warm state of the engine in a homogeneous operation mode for injecting fuel in the intake stroke, only one intake valve (5B) is allowed to interfere with the fuel injection. Further, when the one-valve stoppage is executed with the engine being cold, a tumble control valve 9 is opened, and when the one-valve stoppage is executed with the engine warmed, the tumble control valve 9 is closed.
