<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for image formation that obtain information regarding the kind of a form where an image is to be formed and controls the amount of toner according to the surface structure of the paper kind to obtain excellent picture quality. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has an exposure means of forming a latent image on an image carrier electrified according to half-tone image data, an image carrier, a developing means of visualizing the latent image on the image carrier into a toner image, a transfer means of bringing the toner image on the image carrier into close-contact with a transfer material, a fixing means of fixing the visible image by fixing the toner image formed on the transfer material to the transfer material, an information acquiring means of acquiring information regarding the surface structure of the transfer material, a control means of performing control according to the acquired information so that a toner sticking amount is larger and larger as surface roughness is larger and larger, a transfer material kind acquiring means of acquiring information regarding the kind of the transfer material, and a database means of storing data regarding the surface roughness corresponding to the kind of the transfer material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
