PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of screening a compound, capable of controlling the heat shock protein 90 function which is useful as a cytoprotective agent, and to provide its salt. SOLUTION: In the method for screening a compound capable of controlling the heat shock proteins 90 function or salt of the compound, (A) (i) expression dose of the heat shock proteins, when a test compound is brought into contact with a cell and (ii) the test compound is brought into contact with the cell, in the presence of cytokine are each measured and is compared with each other; or (B) the heat shock proteins 90 and a compound capable of binding to the heat shock proteins 90 are used. Such a compound capable of controlling the heat shock proteins 90 function, is useful as a preventive or remedy, for example, bone/cartilage diseases, heart diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, cancer, or inflammatory diseases.
