To hold a weft yarn (2) in position in the weft mixing tube (3) at the blower jet of an air jet loom, before propulsion through the shed between the warps, the clamp (1) has a blade which is moved against another blade, to hold the weft yarn between them in a clamping action, and be released by opening the moving blade. The blades (4a,4b) have ends (8a,8b) sprung against each other, with a spring reassertion for opening when relaxed. The moving blade can be a magnetic or piezo electric unit.
