<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically select one of settlement means from two or more settlement means depending on the amount of money of settlement. <P>SOLUTION: This settlement processing system is composed of a POS device 10, a portable terminal 12, a credit company computer 14, and a banking agency computer 16 and so on. In the portable terminal 12, when the amount of money of settlement is sent from the POS device 10 (S104), the settlement means corresponding to the amount of money of settlement is determined with reference to the settlement means determination table (S106). A settlement request signal containing the settlement information for settling by the determined settlement means and the amount of money of settlement is transmitted to the POS device 10.
