PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering device of simple constitution capable of eliminating a stepping phenomenon even in a vehicle having a large self-aligning torque and free of the risk that the period of steering wheel vibration shortens. SOLUTION: The electric power steering device includes a target current setting part 12 furnished with an assist current setting part 121 to receive the steering torque T and emit the fundamental assist amperage It' to be the base for calculation of the current target value It, a differentiator 122 to receive the steering angular velocityωand emit its differential dω/dt, an inertia giving compensation part 123 to receive the differential and emit the compensation amperage Ij equivalent to the inertia addition of an electric motor 6, and an adder 124 to emit the current target value It formed by adding the compensation amperage Ij to the fundamental assist amperage It'. Because the inertia giving compensation part 123 allows handling in such a way that the inertia increases, it is possible to eliminate a stepping phenomenon and elongate the period of the steering wheel vibration owing to lowering of the resonance frequency.
