A method of giving and receiving data, applicable to monitoring of outdoor units of different models. First information (A1b) is a component provided at an outdoor unit (10b) and is information with respect to an object of which condition is to be grasped. A monitor (20) inputs the first information (A1b) in Step S22. An operator of the monitor (20) selects an object, condition of which is to be grasped, out of data of the first information (A1b) to request information indicating condition of the object. In Step S24, the monitor (20) outputs a second request (Q2). The outdoor unit (10b) outputs second information (A2) as information indicating condition of the object selected. The operator of the monitor (20) can grasp condition of the outdoor unit (10b), particularly condition of the object selected based on the first information (A1b).
