摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gradation display controller that realizes multi-gradation display with simple circuit constitution and can be made low cost. <P>SOLUTION: A flat panel display device 1 is equipped with a display panel 2, a scanning electrode driving part 3, a data electrode driving part 4, and a signal control part 5. The display panel 2 has scanning electrodes S<SB>0</SB>to S<SB>N-1</SB>, data electrodes D<SB>0</SB>to D<SB>N-1</SB>, and display cells 8. The scanning electrode driving part 3 applies a potential to the scanning electrodes S<SB>0</SB>to S<SB>N-1</SB>selected in specified order. A basic display period wherein multi-gradation data are displayed consists of a series of subordinate display periods each having a predetermined unit time width. Further, the signal control part 5 generates a gradation display signal DIN indicating illumination states or nonillumination states of display cells 8 corresponding to the data electrodes D<SB>0</SB>to D<SB>N-1</SB>for each display period and the data electrode driving part 4 generates a data signal voltage making the display cells 8 illuminate or not illuminate according to the gradation display signal DIN for the subordinate display periods. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
