<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric clamp with a high clamping force in a small and comparatively inexpensive package. <P>SOLUTION: An electric clamp 10 includes a housing 12, a motor 14 mounted to a housing 13, a ball screw 24 driven by the motor 14 via a belt, and a linkage 26 driven by the ball screw 24 at one end and rotating an output shaft 30 mounted to the other end. The motor 14 and the belt drive the ball screw 24 between a full projection position for rotating the output shaft 30 to a clamping position and a full retreating position for rotating the output shaft 30 to a unclamped position. It is monitored and controlled by a built-in computer or a remote pendant. Display lights on the housing and the remote pendant convey status information of the clamp.
