PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for generating color gradients. SOLUTION: The system generates the color gradients using a geometric curved surface modeling technique. Using the system and the method, a designer can specify extremely complicated gradients with a simple manner. The system can easily generate the color gradients using, for example, a vector-based interpolation method and/or an interpolation method using a partial differential equation (PDE) based on a pixel. As an example, an input boundary curve and/or feature curve is approximated by line segments, and by use of the line segment, smooth color gradients of triangulated approximation are generated.
