The electrically driven main drive shaft(6) engages with one or more secondary drive shafts(10) via a mitre gear unit(7). A gear wheel(8) is located at the opposite end of each secondary drive shaft to the mitre gear unit. Each gear wheel engages with a fixed rack(9) and the mitre drive unit is connected to a machine part to be moved. A hollow shaft motor(12) fixed to the machine has V-shaped internal teeth which engage with complementary external teeth of the drive shaft to drive the main drive shaft(6). Independent claims are included for: (1) a clamping unit on an injection machine with fixed, moving and fixed end(2) platens and the claimed linear drive system for operating the moving platen; (2) a plasticizing unit of an injection machine with a linear drive for axial movement of the screw and a mitre gear unit(7) connected to the screw or the rotating drive unit for the screw; and (3) an ejector system for an injection machine with a linear drive for operating the ejector plate and a mitre gear unit connected to the ejector plate.
