PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it is necessary to surely clean a plurality of inkjet heads in a short period of time when ink is applied to the surface of a large-sized substrate by using the inkjet heads. SOLUTION: The subject coating applicator is provided with a maintenance unit part for maintaining an application unit part having a plurality of coating heads. The maintenance unit part is composed of a head inside cleaning liquid supplying mechanism part, a suction type charging mechanism part, and a head discharge port wiping mechanism part. The maintenance unit part can move horizontally with respect to the substrate conveying surface of the application unit part, retracts in the outside of the conveying area of a substrate conveying mechanism when the application unit part is in applying work, but when not in the applying work, oppositely, abuts on the undersurface of the application unit part, and each of the inkjet heads of the application unit part is intercepted from outdoor air and the discharge port of each of the inkjet heads is protected.
