PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and inexpensive biochip reader. SOLUTION: This biochip reader is composed of a semiconductor laser 10 for applying a laser beam 11 capable of exciting a fluorescent substance, a beam shaper 12 for converting the laser beam 11 applied from the semiconductor laser 10 from a Gaussian beam into a top hat beam, a capillary plate 22 for collimating the scattered fluorescence 21, an interference filter 24 blocking the laser beam 11 and transmitting the fluorescence 21 among the light having passed through the capillary plate 22, and an electronic cooling type CCD 20 receiving the fluorescence 21 permeating the interference filter 24.
