PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the weight of a tripod type constant velocity universal fitting and compact the fitting and reduce the generation of vibration. SOLUTION: The tripod type constant velocity universal fitting is provided in an inner periphery with three track grooves 12 in an axial direction. The fitting comprises an outside fitting member 10 having a roller guide surface 14 formed in a side wall opposed to each track groove 12, a tripod member 20 having three radially protruding trunnion journals 22, and a roller 30 rotatable through a plurality of needlelike rollers 32 around each trunnion journal 22 and contained in the track groove 12 of the outside fitting member 10. Further, the fitting is formed in such a manner that the roller 30 is guided on an outer peripheral surface by the roller guide surface 14. In the fitting, contact between the roller 30 and the roller guide surface 14 is formed into circular contact, its contact modulus is set to 1.01 or more, and during application of a given torque load, width Ls of the roller 30 is decreased to the extent that a contact ellipse formed at the roller 30 is prevented from dislocation from the end face of the roller 30.
