PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two cycle engine capable of reliably and sufficiently scavenging the interior of a combustion chamber 2 by increasing a pressure of air A or air-fuel mixture M for scavenging. SOLUTION: A time-lag scavenging two cycle engine comprises an air-fuel mixture first preload chamber 12 in a crank case 3; an air-fuel mixture second preload chamber 10 situated at the peripheral wall of a cylinder 1; an air preload chamber 11 situated at the peripheral wall of the cylinder 1 and adjacent to the lower part of the air-fuel mixture second preload chamber 10; an air-fuel mixture feed passage 16 to feed air-fuel mixture M to the air-fuel mixture first preload chamber1; an air feed passage 14 to feed air A to the air preload chamber; an air-fuel mixture communication passage 23 to introduce air-fuel mixture M of the air-fuel mixture first preload chamber 12 into the air-fuel mixture second preload chamber 10; an air scavenging port 20 beginning to be opened in the down stroke of a piston 7 and introducing air A from the air preload chamber 11 into a combustion chamber 2; an air-fuel mixture scavenging port 19 to introduce the air-fuel mixture M of the air-fuel mixture second preload chamber 10 into a combustion chamber 2 at the up stroke of the piston 7; and a partition board 9 mounted on the piston 7 and partitioning the air-fuel mixture second preload chamber 12 and the air preload chamber 11 from each other.
