Transport cylinder for press system has anti smearing covers on stretch frames which are pivot mounted to vary the profile of the cylinder

A transport cylinder, e.g. positioned between two print stages in a printing system, is fitted with an anti smearing cover with variable profile and tension. The anti smearing fabric (16) is stretched over two frames (7) each pivot mounted about an axis parallel to the cylinder axis. The frames are swung inwards and outwards to vary the profile of the cylinder for optimum support of the printed sheets. Paper sheets use a large diameter setting and cardboard, or other rigid sheets, require a narrower cylinder, e.g. with the panels swung onto the core of the cylinder.
