The motor vehicle (10) safety control circuit has wheel speed sensors (12,14,16,18) generating multiple wheel velocity signals and a steering angle sensor, a yaw rate sensor, a longitudinal acceleration sensor and a pitch angle sensor. A controller generates a longitudinal vehicle velocity value in response to the sensor outputs and uses this to control the vehicle safety system such as a rollover control.
