PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent voids of light due to deformation of a phase difference plate. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is equipped with a polarizing plate outside a liquid crystal cell and is equipped with a phase difference plate 2 to improve the viewing angle characteristics in the liquid crystal cell. Since the phase difference plate 2 is separated from the polarizing plate and disposed in the liquid crystal cell, the distance between the liquid crystal layer 9 and the phase difference plate 2 is reduced, which decreases deviation of rays by the thickness of the glass substrate 1 and significantly improves the viewing angle characteristics. Further, lamination of the phase difference plate 2 and the polarizing plate is unnecessary, which significantly reduces voids accompanied with changes in the phase difference of the phase difference plate 2 caused by deformation of the phase difference or thermal shrinkage of the plate 2 caused by lamination of the phase difference plate 2 and polarizing plate. |
