PRESSURE-CAST COMPONENT MADE OF HIGHLY DUCTILE AND RESILIENT ALUMINIUM ALLOY

A structural or safety component is cast under pressure from an aluminum alloy of composition (weight %): Mg 1.0 - 4.5; Si 0.2 - 1.3; Cu less than 0.3; Zn less than 0.10; Fe less than 0.3; Ti less than 0.3; at least one element designed to reduce sticking to the mould and selected from Mn (0.3 - 1), Cr (0.1 - 0.4), Co (0.1 - 0.4), V (0.1 - 0.4); other elements less than 0.05 each and 0.15 in total; and aluminum the remainder. The component, in the T5 condition (after annealing at a temperature between 150 deg C and 200 deg C), has a limit of elasticity greater than 100 MPa and an elongation at rupture greater than 15%.
