A solvent extractant of Formula (1) is provided. Preferred extractants are 4-acyl-(3H)-pyrazol-3-one in which the acyl group is an alkylacyl group comprising a tertiary alpha branched alkyl group with at least eight carbon atoms, or a secondary alpha branched alkyl group with at least eleven carbon atoms. Extraction compositions and processes for the extraction of metal values from aqueous acidic and ammoniacal solutions are also provided. Formula (1): wherein, R1 is an aryl group optionally substituted with one or more groups selected from C1-12 alkyl or halo; R2 is C1-12 alkyl group or a phenyl optionally substituted with one or more groups selected from C1-12 alkyl or halo; R3 is an alpha branched alkyl group containing at least eight carbon atoms, and tautomers or salts thereof.
