The location and position of a position-detector (5) in the form of an arm can be altered in relation to a functional unit (1) in the form of an operation microscope. The position-locator-arm has a cantilevered element (14) joined to the functional unit by means of a ball and socket joint (10). The arm has a position-detector part (16) connected to the cantilevered element by a ball and socket joint (12) and spaced apart from the functional unit. The position-detector arm has a transmitter with at least three transmitter elements (19,21,23,25,27,29).
