[Class 91] [Also in Group IV] Lubricants for fibres comprise a lubricating oil and/or an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic alcohol containing at least six carbon atoms or a fatty acid together with a salt of an amine containing at least two aliphatic amino groups with an organic acid derived from a polybasic inorganic acid by replacing acidic hydrogen or hydroxyl by an organic radicle. The organic acids may be derived from sulphuric, sulphonic, phosphoric, thiophosphoric and phosphorous acids by esterification with organic hydroxy compounds such as aliphatic and cycloaliphatic alcohols. Acids may also be formed by sulphonating animal and vegetable fats or mineral oils. Specified diamines are ethylenediamine, a, #- andαγ-diaminoprapane, hexamethylenediamine, 1:4 diaminocyclohexane, monoethyl, monobenzyl and monocyclohexyl-ethylene-diamine, dimethyl, diethyl and dibenzyl ethylenediamine. The lubricating oil may be an animal or vegetable oil or an ester of a polymerized or oxidized unsaturated fatty acid. A polymerized or oxidized oleic ester of methyl cyclohexanol'is mentioned. In examples: (1) methylated spirits is mixed with a product containing sodium lauryl sulphate and unsulphonated lauryl alcohol N-diethylethlenediamine and sulphuric acid are added and the mixture is re-fluxed; the solvent is removed and a mixture of paraffin oil, coconut oil and cyclohexanol is added to the resulting N-diethylethylenediamine salt of lauryl. acid-sulphate containing lauryl .alcohol; the product is used for lubricating staple fibre or yarn of cellulose acetate; (2) lauryl alcohol is sulphonated and the product treated with aqueous N-diethylethylenediamine and caustic soda; a mixture of paraffin oil, coconut oil and cyclohexanol is added and, after allowing to stratify, the lower layer of aqueous sodium sulphate is removed.
