Vehicle travelling speed pattern estimation method

A vehicle travelling speed pattern estimation device and method comprises means for storing travelling data and environment as a mutually associated data, means for generating a candidate speed pattern on the basis of the travelling data and output means for extracting a speed pattern matching the current environment for a route to be followed. The device may further comprise means for specifying frequent routes which can be divided into sections such that a candidate is generated for each section and the sectional candidates combined for the whole route. The candidate speed pattern may be based on average travelling times for each short section. The travelling data for each section may also be classified into sets for each section and the output pattern may be selected from the biggest set. The environment data may comprise date, time, day of the week and information from on vehicle devices such as a rain sensor and headlight use. In one embodiment the output pattern is used by a hybrid vehicle to balance use and charging of a battery.
