PURPOSE: An optimization method of image data compression and a system therefor are provided to enable a user to select a compression ratio of image data and optimize an image quality and a printing speed of an image to be printed. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises several steps. A compression rate is determined by a printing mode selected by a user(10). Various compression ratios are stored in a lookup-table according to the printing mode. According to the determined compression ratio, an image is compressed(20).
