PURPOSE: A medium transporting device and a recording device are provided to prevent an inferior influence when a medium is transported by using a transportation surface and a dimple. CONSTITUTION: A medium transporting device includes a transportation surface(122) and a dimple. The transportation surface has a recording medium sucked and transported. The dimple continuously extends from a transportation upstream end of the medium to a transportation downstream end of the medium on the transporting surface. The dimple is formed in such a manner that a depth of the transportation downstream side is larger than that on a transportation upstream side. A plurality of dimples are arranged in parallel in a direction perpendicular to a transporting direction of the medium.
