PURPOSE: A method for lighting a flash in a portable terminal having an image input portion is provided to set a lighting time to light a flash for a predetermined time, and to light the flash during the set lighting time if an image input mode is set, thereby brightening an image inputted to a portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A controller checks whether a key signal is inputted(601). If so, the controller converts into an image input mode(603), and checks whether a currently set mode is a flash lighting setup mode(605). If so, the controller checks whether a time is set in the flash lighting setup mode(607). If so, the controller lights a flash during the set time(617). If the time is not set, the controller checks whether a sensor setup is set in the flash mode(609). If so, the controller checks whether a sensor senses a light(611). If so, the controller lights the flash(613), and checks whether a key signal is inputted(639). If the key signal is a cancel key signal, the controller puts out the light of the flash(641).
